PLUS A TELESCOPE WORKSHOP AT 5 PM

During the month of February, Jupiter is very close to Earth. A presentation  on  this  giant  planet  and  a  visit  by  the  ancient  astronomer  Galileo  will  entertain  and   educate  participants,  then  telescopes will be available to view Jupiter and other celestial objects. A workshop for those who would like help in assembling and/or using their own telescope will start at 5 PM.

Families and life-long learners of all ages are welcome at this free event. Register at the Twentynine Palms Park and Recreation Office at 74362 Joe Davis Road, next to the Skateboard Park or by calling 760-367-7562. For more information call Doris at 760-408-6099.

Everyone is strongly encouraged to bring water bottles, chairs, and their own telescopes, and to dress for unpredictable desert weather. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

June 1 – “DESERT NIGHTS” ART EXHIBIT OPENING

Sky’s The Limit extends an invitation to the opening reception Friday, June 1, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. for “Desert Nights,” an art exhibit at the Visitor Center and Chamber of Commerce building, 73484 29 Palms Hwy., at the corner of Desert Queen Avenue, downtown Twentynine Palms.

Celebrating the starry desert night sky and the moonlit desert landscape, this Art in Public Places summer exhibition runs from June 1 to August 31. The visitor center is open 9-5 Monday through Friday and 10-4 Saturday and Sunday, (760) 367-6719.

Art in Public Places exhibitions at the Visitor Center & Gallery are presented by the Public Arts Advisory Committee of the City of Twentynine Palms. Sky’s The Limit is developing an Observatory and Nature Center on its 15-acre campus, east of Utah Trail and north of the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park in Twentynine Palms. Sky’s The Limit is a grassroots, all-volunteer affiliate of the Basin Wide Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Visit www.skysthelimit29.org for more information.

Celestron Telescope

May 21 – A MAJOR CELESTRON TELESCOPE TO BE PRESENTED TO SKY’S THE LIMIT

Sky’s The Limit invites you to an ice cream social on Saturday, May 21 to celebrate as Celestron—a leading designer, manufacturer, and importer of high-quality optical products—makes a major donation to the local Observatory and Nature Center project. Kevin Kawai and Michelle Meskill of Celestron will present a 14” C14 OTA Show Telescope and a CGE Pro Mount, their flagship premium mount.

Starting at 7 PM, guests can visit the Nature Trail, Orrery, and Meditation Garden to learn about Sky’s The Limit programs and activities. Following the presentation and celebration, guests will enjoy viewing Saturn and other celestial objects, and join interactive demonstrations involving the Earth and Moon.

There’s no charge for this event. Just bring your chairs and a flashlight! Sky’s The Limit is located adjacent to Joshua Tree National Park in Twentynine Palms. Just before the Park entrance on Utah Trail, the Observatory and Nature Center is on the east side.
