CHUCKWALLA CHOLLA
Cylindropuntia chuckwallensis
This cholla is named after the Chuckwalla Mountains where it was first discovered. It looks like the golden cholla but is more compact and lower to the ground. It is the red flower that differentiates it from the yellow flower of the golden cholla. The stamen filaments are dark red too.
A small number chuckwalla cholla can be found on the east side of the park near Cottonwood campground.
