This is a low, aromatic, bush shrub, of yellowish-green color.  In early February or March, it has purple flowers and double, sac-like fruits, which turn bright yellowish-green.  Thamnosma montana belongs to the same family as citrus fruits, and have glands that yield an oil which when rubbed on the skin is a very powerful irritant.
