COTTONTOP CACTUS
Echinocactus polycephalalus var. polycephalus Commonly found in rounded clumps of 6 or more heads, sometimes 20 or more. It has a fragrant yellow flower and blooms in August. The name cottontop refers to the generous tufts of cottony hairs enveloping the flower base or fruit. It grows in rocky areas of the Mojave and Colorado deserts.
